ADVERTISEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION (SUPERVISOR) OFFICER – Short Term Position for 3 Months JOB REF: 03/02/2011
CARE South Sudan is an International NGO working South Sudan. CARE and its partners work with vulnerable communities to address the underlying causes of poverty, promote peace and development by strengthening civil society, responding to emergencies and advocating for policy change.
CARE is looking for a suitable South Sudanese National to fill the position of Construction Officer (CO) CARE Jonglei Program for a period of 3 months to provide on site supervision of construction works.
Job Summary: The Construction Officer will report to the Program Manager Upper Nile Region Water and Sanitation Program (UNRWSP). S/he will be responsible for the supervision of construction works being implemented by CARE Jonglei program in general and directly support in particular the construction works of male and female wards blocks that form part of a health facility planned in Jonglei Transitional and Livelihood Stabilisation Project (JTLSP). She/he will be responsible for monitoring construction budgets, undertake minor alterations to working/production designs and drawings, prepare BoQs and Tender documents. Issuance of interim payment certificates, variation orders and preparation and tracking of snag list will fall under the CO’s job description. The incumbent of this position will assist in the structural and civil works in CARE including assignments in water and sanitation. He/she will also support in the overall implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the livelihood activities of JTLSP, prepare weekly and monthly reports.
Required skills and qualifications
• Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering or Building construction from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 2 years experience in Busy Building and Civil Engineering projects.
• Experience in community development work, community mobilization and organization
• Experience in quantity surveying, preparing bill of quantities
• Knowledge of construction management.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and report writing skills
• Experience in supervision of public and private buildings.
Desired skills and qualifications
• Experience working in South Sudan is desirable, especially in former Greater Bor County in Jonglei State.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD or ArchiCAD or any design software desired.
• Good MS Offfice Excel software skills
The Construction Officer will be based at Panyagor, Twic East County, and Jonglei State in South Sudan. Only short-listed applicants will be contacted. This position is only open to South Sudanese Nationals.
