General Manager — Phytosanitary Services.

A regulatory state corporation seeks to fill the position of General Manager — Phytosanitary Services.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Initiate, plan and co-ordinate matters relating to crop pests and disease control.
  • Develop, co-ordinate and implement operational policies, standards and procedures relating to phytosanitary services and biosafety.
  • Co-ordinate the grading and inspection of plants and plant produce at the points of entry and exit.
  • Establish strong linkages and collaboration with various local and international organizations involved in the field of plant protection.
Person’s Profile
  • Must be a holder of a PhD degree in Crop Protection or other related fields like Weed Science, Entomology, Pathology etc.from a recognized university and demonstrate exposure to biotechnology and biosafety.
  • This position reports to the Managing Director and so experience at a senior management position for at least five years will be necessary.
  • Demonstrate strong management and leadership skills and the drive to achieve excellence and have an appreciation of National Agricultural Policies.
  • International exposure to WTO-Sanitary and Phytosanitary agreement issues, FAO,The International Plant Protection Convention and the Convention on Biological Diversity will be an added advantage.
  • “Hands on” skills on developing, mentoring and achieving results through people.
  • A strong bias on “soft skills”and visible interpersonal traits.
  • A strong science base with a publication track record in refereed international journals relevant to crop protection.
