MEMBERSHIP AND FUNDRAISING OFFICER - WCST

WCST, founded in 1988 and registered under the Societies Ordinance operates tod as one of the largest, membership-based, nonprofit and nongovernmental organization (NGO) that engages in the conservation of natural resources (flora &fauna) and general environment in Tanzania. WCST is one of the most widely recognized national conservation NGO within Tanzania, that engages in broad conservation issues.

WCST is the Birdlife International Partner in Tanzania hence it is a strong advocate of birds. The Society is in urgent need to fill a number of open positions in its Secretariat and therefore desires to recruit suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the positions of Accounts Assistants, Membership and Fund Raising Officer and a Programme Officer for Wildlife Management Areas in its projects:

Overall Responsibilities:

The overall objective of this position is to increase WCST Membership recruitment and fund raising capacity. Promote awareness and knowledge about the Society to the public and promote active participation of members of the Society in its activities on conservation of environment and natural resources. Responsible for technical mobilization of financial recourses from various sources through fund raising processes and events as necessary.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Effectively recruit, and manage members of the Society and monitor their active participation in Society Programmes.

• Effective management of Membership Data base for WCST in liaison with the CEO or Branch Executive Officers.

• Prepare and popularize (in both Kiswahili and English) k.ey information on WCST Mission and Vision with the aim to improve Membership participation in campaigns to safeguard the environment through sustainable use of natural resources

• Communicate and disseminate information generated by projects under implementation by the Society and other stakeholders regarding social accountability in environmental quality

• Engage the Membership in bird watching and in other field activities for awareness raising and as a part time hobby

• Organize and plan Members events and meetings as scheduled and planned by the Executive Committee and maintain close contact with all Membership Categories

• Advise on technical issues of fundraising strategies, marketing and lobbying for financial support from various sources, and tak.e lead on the mobilization of financial resources from inside and outside the country.

• Plan and Carry out fundraising activities for the Society as directed by the Fundraising Sub-Committee, in accordance with fund raising strategy.

• Write activity reports, quarterly reports, mid-year and annual reports

Qualifications and Experience:

The applicant needs to have: (a) Minimum qualification of a BSc degree in Natural Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing or related field with a minimum of 3 years experience of active engagement in Marketing and Fundraising, (b) Strong Public Relation skills (c)Computer literacy and experience in team work. (d) Solid skills in writing and speak.ing both English and Kiswahili. (e) Training and Facilitation skills. (D Ability to work under tight deadlines and long hours as needed.
