Paediatric HIV Clinical Advisor

South to South part of the University of Stellenbosch (US), Cape Town, South Africa, that provides technical, programmatic, capacity building and systems support to various USAID-funded organisations to accelerate access to HIV Prevention, Care & Treatment services for high-risk groups, such as HIV-infected pregnant women and children.

This USAID-funded program is part of the PEPFAR initiative to combat HIV/AIDS in South Africa and is seeking several qualified and dedicated persons to fill the following positions (Please note that these positions are in the program implementation capacity - not in the research or academic capacity). All the positions are one-year contracts, which can be extended in the future.


Paediatric HIV Clinical Advisor

The successful candidate will be a member of a technical team affiliated with Tygerberg Children’s Hospital and will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide site support for the implementation, improvement and expansion of family-centred HIV services. The incumbent will be expected to provide consistent and high-quality support to the different program interventions in his/her technical area. S2S maintains offices in both Cape Town and Johannesburg; this position will be based in Cape Town.

Duties: Provide direct technical assistance to health care facilities supported by collaborating partners (such assistance may include training of staff on and off-site, modeling skills, facilitation of community linkages, patient flow analysis etc.) • support the strengthening, development and management of clinical systems related to HIV/AIDS service scale-up, including information, adherence and referral support • serve as a resource for the development of training materials in paediatric HIV/AIDS programming and evaluation • provide direct support to health care providers to ensure clinical HIV care/management is conducted according to national guidelines and in a timely manner • liaise with PMTCT, psychosocial support and adherence programmes, as well as community outreach programmes • work closely with other partners to maximise partnership strengths and effectively collaborate to implement programme goals • perform other duties and responsibilities as defined.
Requirements: Qualification as a medical doctor • registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa • extensive clinical experience in the care and treatment of paediatric & adolescent HIV/AIDS patients • an excellent grasp of clinical issues and current literature in HIV/AIDS treatment • training experience • clinical mentorship & supportive supervision experience • at least three years’ experience in HIV and Public Health programming • exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills • strong interpersonal skills • a strong written and spoken command of English • a high level of proficiency in relevant computer applications, particularly MS Office • willingness and availability to travel 40% of the time, predominantly within South Africa • International candidates must successfully obtain a South African employment permit
Recommendation: Experience in HIV/AIDS Paediatric care and treatment, PMTCT and TB/HIV programme management.
