Oxfam’s work in South Asia is vitally important. Not only is it home to 40% of the people living in poverty worldwide, but it’s also an unpredictable region. So guaranteeing food and livelihoods security in emergency situations is a huge concern. Plan how best to do just that and you’ll make a difference to thousands of lives.

About the role
Shaping Oxfam’s long-term vision of food security and vulnerable livelihoods at both regional and country levels, you’ll have a hugely important challenge ahead of you. Working with staff across the region and leading the development of concept notes, proposals and reports is just the start of it. You’ll also develop an integrated EFSVL approach to humanitarian emergencies. So you’ll be investigating supply and value chains, looking at how we work with markets during and after emergencies and developing our market analysis accordingly. And as you adapt our existing EFSL assessment tools, build strong relationships with potential partners and design models that can be rapidly scaled up, you’ll make sure we’re ready for every eventuality.

What we’re looking for
You’ll have significant level of EFSL field experience and a background pulling together resilience building, emergency response and recovery programming. So you’ll know all about monitoring and evaluation methodologies, building capacity and integrating disaster risk reduction on the ground. Ideally, you’ll have worked with an NGO in the region and have South Asian language skills. Coupled with a knowledge of social protection and an eye for opportunity, these would certainly be an advantage. But it’s more important that you’re sensitive to cultural and gender differences and are committed to our over all goals. You’ll also need to be fluent in English and have proven negotiation, relationship management and communication skills.

About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
