The Sanger Institute, based south of Cambridge, is one of the world's leading medical research centres funded primarily by the Wellcome Trust. It has built on its success with the major sequencing projects - human, zebrafish, mouse, pig - to now look at the role of genetics in health and disease.

To help in this quest the Institute has established large scale experimental pipelines for DNA analysis as part of an extensive scientific infrastructure: including Sequencing, Genotyping, Sample Management, large scale PCR and others which support and drive significant numbers of projects both internally and externally.

We are looking to appoint a senior manager to jointly lead a team of operational managers who will each oversee a DNA pipeline within the area. The role will be accountable for the operational delivery across all of the DNA pipelines to customer requirements in time, cost and quality. Working alongside the senior management team, the joint Head of DNA Pipelines Operations will formulate and deliver the overall DNA Pipelines strategy, leading and influencing change and implementing improvements within their area of responsibility.

Essential Skills
The ideal candidate will have an extensive track record in successfully managing a number of complex projects, preferably within a scientific environment. They will be used to operating at board level, able to lead on strategy planning and delivery. They will have demonstrated strong leadership skills and will have proven competency in change management. They will also have the ability to foster effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

Ideal Skills
Knowledge and a technical awareness of the Institute's major pipelines would be an advantage but is not essential.

Other information
We are also looking for up to 7 operational team managers who will report into this role, each managing a specific area within DNA pipelines. 

Salary for this position is in excess of £57784 per annum dependent on experience.
