Internship at the Water Integrity Network Secretariat

The WIN-S, the Water Integrity Network Secretariat, situated in Berlin and hosted by Transparency International, is seeking a highly motivated intern for the autumn 2011

The Water Integrity Network (WIN) is an action oriented coalition of individuals and organizations that are able and willing to support the cause of increasing Water Integrity benefiting poor people in helping to prevent or reduce corruption in four key areas of work, namely; IWRM, drinking water and sanitation, water for food and water for energy.

The overall objectives of WIN are (1) Promoting pro-poor Water Integrity practice to prevent and/or reduce corruption in the water sector, and (2) Building coalitions at local, regional and global levels to jointly improve Water Integrity (WI).

According to WIN’s Global Strategy 2011-2016, WIN’s aims are;

Aim 1: We will continue to raise awareness on water corruption and advocate that something can and should be done

Aim 2: We will help forge, encourage and support coalitions and facilitate programmes to increase integrity in the water sector and deal with corruption in a concerted and solution oriented way

Aim 3: We will promote use of tools and methodologies to diagnose corruption and to improve integrity and governance in the water sector

Aim 4: We will improve our effectiveness as leading facilitator in enhancing Water Integrity with an anti-corruption focus

Description of Internship

Main function: Assisting the WIN Secretariat
Starting Date: 1 October 2011
Duration: Six months
Remuneration: EUR 400 per month.
Location: Berlin, Germany

Key responsibilities:

  • Help writing and keeping track of news items and maintaining the WIN website; updating the “News” and the “Events” parts of the web site, on a continuous bases;
  • Responding to requests for assistance/information by WIN members;
  • Support and assist WIN-S team members with administrative and logistical tasks (such as travel planning, travel cost reimbursement, etc.) and WIN related activities;
  • Managing the “info” e-mail account;
  • Update the new contact database (based in Joomla) and assist in the maintenance of the membership part of the database and communications with key corporate members and partners, and other membership issues;
  • Other tasks may arise depending on the need of the WIN Secretariat and on the successful candidate’s field of studies and professional experience.

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • Higher technical or scientific educational background relating to water and/ or sanitation sector or environmental management or economy.
  • Fluency in English as WIN’s principal working language. Knowledge of either Spanish or French would of benefit, as WIN communicates in these three languages. Other language skills are also appreciated.
  • Service and team oriented with excellent written communication skills
  • Evidence of good inter-cultural communication skills and exposure to Asia and/ or Africa and/ or Latin America in particular will be seen as an advantage.
  • Affinity with the WIN mission and objectives focusing on transparency, accountability and good governance in the water sector to prevent corruption
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office)
  • Preferred candidates would have some experience in supporting the organization of international workshops and seminars.
