Advisor WASH
Based in Kapoeta, South Sudan.

We work in over 30 developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and operate in Agriculture & Food Security, Renewable Energy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene.


Responsibilities

• Conduct routine context analysis and contribute to the development and strategic positioning of SNV in Eastern Equatoria in water, hygiene and sanitation,
• Analyse context and identify key stakeholders and actors to engage in joint collaboration to resolve identified and/or selected issues,
• Provide high quality capacity building services to clients in the areas of operation and maintenance of water supplies in rural areas and small towns, sanitation and hygiene in households and schools and strengthening institutional capacity of counties and states,
• Undertake and manage routine monitoring and evaluations with clients and provide corrective measures and lessons learned,
• Provide advice, support and coaching to local CBOs and Local Capacity Builders working with communities in South Sudan, in order to professionalize their functioning and scale up service delivery,
• Contribute to internal and external knowledge development, management documentation and sharing lessons within SNV, clients and/or assignments,
• Pro-actively develop modalities to increase opportunities for gender balance in regard to access to safe water and improved hygiene and sanitation services within rural and urban communities,
• Contribute to financial resources mobilisation and partnerships development
• Document results, including the process followed and the support supplied by SNV and present case (study) and research at relevant forums.


Candidate profile

• Bachelors and Master degree or Post graduate qualification in Hydrogeology, engineering and water, sanitation and environmental management with Pubic Health and/or Governance background or similar,
• Minimum of 5 years (Medior) work experience in the WASH sector with government, international NGOs, action research or private sector, working with communities. Experience in working in a post conflict environment and pastoralist context is desirable
• Experience in advisory practices, in application of models/tools related to community development processes notably in pastoralist context, understanding technical designs for water and sanitation facilities and capacity building for effective use and management and/or effective supply chain systems for spares through private, public partnerships/development, understanding of gender equality and social inclusion, experience of working with international and national organisations and institutional development, understanding of knowledge management, and practical experience with participatory approaches.
• Analytical and problem solving ability, result-oriented and creative, good communication and presentation skills, good documentation, facilitation technical skills, team player with networking abilities and international skills.
• Excellent English, some Arabic or relevant local language would be an added advantage.


Contract Duration: 3 Years.

Description duty station

Medical facilities: Basic, specilized facilities available in Nairobi or Kampala. SNV has also registered with UN Clinic in Juba where staff can also access basic services.
Educational facilities: Basic, No international school available yet.
Security situation: Generally Kapoeta is safe.
Accessibility: Kapoeta is approximately 270 KM from Juba, capital of South Sudan, (7 hours drive on a rough road and 30 minutes on UN WFP flight or MAF); and 120 KM from Lokichoggio town at Kenya- South Sudan boarder (3 hour drive on a rough road), there is an airstrip.
Communication: Good. Cell phone facilities available, satelite phones also used while in field locations.
