Applications are invited for a Chair in Web Science.
The Web is the largest human information construct in history and it is transforming society. In order to understand what the Web is, engineer its future and ensure its social benefit the new interdisciplinary field of Web Science has been created with the University of Southampton at its forefront. The Web and Internet Science (WAIS) research group at Southampton has pioneered the fundamental work that led to the creation of this field. Research is wide ranging and includes work on Open Data, Semantic Web, structural and formal analysis of the Web, Collective Intelligence, Social Machines, Web Enhanced Learning, Life Logging, Multimedia Retrieval, the Internet of Things, Provenance and Trust, Privacy and Cyber Security. It is one of the largest groups of its kind in the world with 20 faculty members and over 100 researchers and PhD students.
We are looking for outstanding scholars in any area of Web Science to become part of this group and work with researchers from other disciplines across the University and from around the world in this exciting new field. Successful candidates will have a background in a core Web Science research discipline and be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake interdisciplinary research and to contribute to the development of the new Web Science undergraduate degree we will be launching in October 2013.
You will be expected to demonstrate experience of academic leadership, evidence of attracting significant research funding as well as personal distinction in scholarship and research.
