Digital Content Producer, Ocean Health Index

Conservation International is seeking a part-time Digital Content Producer to produce, create, and publish content for our Ocean Health Index website. The Ocean Health Index is a newly launched international program that provides invaluable information for all stakeholders and serves as the “Dow Jones” for ocean health. The index is an important measurement that assesses the overall status of ocean health by region and evaluates the impact of remedial actions on a global scale. This position reports to the Global Marine Division Senior Communications Manager.

The Digital Content Produced will serve as a web writer and story producer for the website, working closely with the OHI team, including marine scientists, communicators, and conservationists, to write and produce new content for the site. Responsibilities will include researching and writing ocean conservation related stories, publishing content to the new Ocean Health website, coordinating, creating and distributing an e-newsletter and managing the sites blog. Additional responsibilities include photo management/editing and short editing web videos.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research, Write + Review: Research and write new stories for the Ocean Health Index website. Write and edit web copy as needed, including short blog posts, titles, headers, teases and captions. Assure all content is reviewed by appropriate experts before published.
  • Publish: Regularly publish new content, including written articles, photos, videos, etc. to the OHI website
  • Market Content: Manage and distribute content and messages through OHI Channels including an e-newsletter, social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, and CI Channels, ensuring appropriate testing and functionality.
  • Multimedia Production: Coordinate and produce visual content for the OHI website, including short web videos and photo slideshows to ensure up to date, engaging and interactive web content. The position will be required to identify new content and pitch story ideas to senior staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, or related field
  • 2 Years of experience in a web-related position such as web production, content development, web writing, social media management, web strategy, etc.
  • Experience with blogging, audio production, video production and social networking platforms
  • Knowledge of online marketing and communication concepts
  • Well-versed in fundamental visual and interactive design disciplines and principles.
  • Experience with web project management and web workflows
  • Familiarity with information architecture, site mapping and page-level layout
  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS)
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization
  • Familiarity with web analytics (Google Analytics, Omniture, WebTrends, etc.)
  • Experience in simple editing of video
  • Excellent English writing and researching skills.
  • Knowledge of general marine science
  • Proven ability to work well in a team, with multiple content owners and subject matter experts
  • Self-motivated and able to operate with limited supervision
  • Comfort with fast-paced information flows and complex issues
  • Must be able to work with a team

Preferred:

  • Exceptional story-teller
  • Basic graphic design skills
  • Photo editing skills in Photoshop
  • Video editing skills in Final Cut or Premiere
