Fund Coordinator for the Red Umbrella Fund

Mama Cash is looking for a Fund Coordinator for the Red Umbrella Fund,

for 36 hours a week.

Sex workers are severely stigmatised as workers and human beings. Since the early 1970s, determined and courageous sex workers have been collectively organising in spite of the sometimes extreme consequences they face for speaking out.

Since 1985, Mama Cash has been supporting sex workers’ rights organisations in their efforts to change laws, hearts, and minds. In November 2011, Mama Cash was selected to serve as the host for the Red Umbrella Fund, a collaborative funding mechanism designed to strengthen and ensure the sustainability of the sex worker rights movement worldwide. The Fund does this by catalyzing new funding specifically for sex worker-led organizations and national, regional and global networks, and by raising awareness about the human rights of sex workers globally. Mama Cash provides administrative and organisational support to the Red Umbrella Fund.

The Red Umbrella Fund, as an independent initiative, carries out the following activities: grantmaking and capacity building for sex worker led organizations and networks at global, regional and national levels; communications and awareness raising within the donor community on issues of concern to RUF grantees; and resource mobilization activities designed to attract additional resources to the field of sex worker rights.

The Red Umbrella Fund has two tiers of governance: the International Steering Committee (ISC) providing strategic policy and programmatic oversight of the Red Umbrella Fund, and the Program Advisory Committee (PAC), which reviews funding proposals, makes grant recommendations, and provides advice and support in monitoring, evaluation, and other aspects of grant-making. The majority of participants on both governing bodies are sex workers. The ISC also includes donors to the Red Umbrella Fund.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking to hire a Fund Coordinator who will work closely with the International Steering Commmitee, the Programme Advisory Committee, and the Director of Programmes at Mama Cash, will build all aspects of the grantmaking policy and practice of the Fund. The Coordinator will also oversee the development of the Fund’s grant monitoring, reporting, and evaluation practices. The Coordinator will also engage in fundraising with institutional donors with the support of Mama Cash’s fundraising team. The Coordinator will communicate about the Red Umbrella Fund grantees with the support of the Mama Cash communications team. The Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day aspects of the Red Umbrella Fund, with the support of a programme associate.
