Job Summary:

The CSIS Middle East Program seeks a creative, hard-working, and energetic individual to assist with a range of substantive and administrative activities. The position is at open rank, and candidates at the research assistant, research associate and fellow levels will be considered.

The successful candidate for this position will have a superb grounding in Middle Eastern studies, have exceptional analytical skills, and possess an entrepreneurial bent. The candidate will also be proactive and skilled at balancing a diverse array of tasks. He/she will have demonstrably strong skills in research and writing, project management, and teamwork, and have an interest in and aptitude for public policy. The position will report to the Director of the Middle East Program.

Description of Duties:

Responsibilities include assisting in various aspects of project design and implementation, including:

  • Generating and developing ideas for new projects, events, and speakers
  • Conceptualizing and executing novel, policy-relevant original research
  • Researching funding options and helping prepare grant applications
  • Researching and writing, for both publications and multimedia
  • Budgeting
  • Liaison with administrative elements of CSIS
  • Contribute to planning, execution, and follow-up for program conferences and other events
  • Editing, designing, laying out, and distributing short reports and monthly newsletters


Qualifications


Required qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Middle East Studies, International Affairs, Political Science, or a related field. Candidates up to and including a Ph.D. will be considered
  • Demonstrably superior research, writing, and communication skills, as well as professional poise
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Eagerness to help frame the Washington policy community’s understanding of the Middle East

Strongly preferred qualifications:

  • Proficiency in at least one regional language (Arabic, Hebrew, or Persian)
  • Experience studying or working in the Middle East
