Volunteer placements in Zimbabwe

Progressio is currently recruiting volunteers for Zimbabwe departing in July 2012.

As an ICS volunteer, you could bring new ideas, skills and perspectives to help local organisations to overcome poverty and injustice. You do not need years of previous experience, we are looking for volunteers who are committed, keen, able to work with others and open to learning.

Zimbabwe is at a crossroads. Many years of crisis have brought the country to its knees. Nearly 20 per cent of the population are HIV positive. Life expectancy has plummeted to 43 years for women and 44 for men. Yet there is hope. Allied to this is the great resilience among the Zimbabwean people who have the potential to lift themselves out of poverty.

Progressio’s ICS 10-week placements offer UK-based young people - 18 to 25 years old (there are also some team leader places for people of 23+) - the possibility to gain first-hand experience of community based development. Through Progressio ICS, you can help local partners and communities in Zimbabwe to overcome poverty.

Whether you feel you have a lot or little to share, you will certainly develop new skills through varied activities and working with local people, and contribute to lasting change. There will be plenty of opportunities to be creative and use your initiative. As you will be part of a diverse group, you will all have different skills, experiences and interests which you can use as a team to have a real impact.

Current ICS Progressio volunteers in Zimbabwe are working with local young people to learn and share ideas to improve faith-based responses to HIV, bringing ideas and sharing skills and experiences to childhood development classes for children orphaned by HIV, and using entrepreneurial and organisational skills to help livelihood projects.
