Competition Analyst Mergermarket

A global, policy oriented media organisation is looking to hire a research analyst with particular interest in government affairs and competition law.
The role will primarily involve creating and maintaining a database of events, aggregating and analysing public and legal filings as well as monitoring local press reports. The ideal candidate will have experience researching legal and policy developments, with particular focus on competition. They will have a good understanding of how the European Commission and other EU institutions work in practice. The right candidate will also be proficient in monitoring and analysing similar developments in the EU member states.
Previous experience working for a political advocacy group, law firm or media organisation as a researcher is highly advantageous. We seek creative minds who can work in an entrepreneurial environment and influence editorial coverage through his/her research and ideas.
This role will be based in Brussels. The right candidate will have an opportunity to work with our teams in London, Mumbai, Shanghai and Washington.
Requirements: experience in the political/business arena preferably focused on government proceedings and/or high-profile business events. A BA and/or MA/MBA degree or equivalent would be desirable.
Main duties and responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining a database of legal filings and events gathered from public filings, news reports and internal reporting
  • Analysis of legal documents, policy white papers and similar documents
  • Contributing to and producing reports and data for publications using specialised knowledge of global political events
Skills required:
  • Fluency in English and at least one other official EU language, preferably German
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of research methodologies
