Manager: Catering

The South Africa Region of Gold Fields is the bedrock on which the company is built. The Witwatersrand Basin is home to Gold Fields’ KDC and Beatrix Gold Mines, as well as the developing South Deep project. These mines remain key contributors to Gold Fields delivering on its vision of being the global leader in sustainable gold mining.


MANAGER: CATERING


The Property Department is seeking to employ a dedicated, experienced and self-motivated individual to fill
the position of Manager: Catering. The successful applicant will manage catering for Gold Fields SA cost
effectively and safely, in a manner that contributes to productivity in the workplace through nutritional diet
management and catering best practices.


Applicants must be in possession of a tertiary qualification in Nutrition and/or a Business Management
qualification and a minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in the catering industry and 10-15 years’ management
experience. An understanding of how to manage key stakeholders (unions, management, etc) and knowledge
of nutrition and food safety, the Health and Safety Act and Environmental Act are essential, along with
planning, organising, controlling, negotiating and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be diplomatic,
assertive, results orientated, assertive and deadline driven. Financial acumen, problem-solving abilities and a
client service orientation complete the profile. A Business qualification (Financial and/or Operational
Management) would be advantageous.


Duties and responsibilities include: • Optimising and standardising kitchen operations and liquor outlets
• Liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal catering services to clients
• Liaising with dieticians/universities regarding latest knowledge/trends to facilitate appropriate diets that
promote health and optimal performance • Coordinating educational programmes on health, diets and healthy
living/eating lifestyles in line with company wellness drive • Facilitating processes (eg Forums) to understand
client problems and expectations to enable a proactive resolving of issues – thereby preventing any negative
impact on operations • Planning and managing resources, including the availability of appropriately skilled and
motivated people and teams • Providing regular weekly and monthly reporting to the Senior Manager
• Managing supplier performance and contractual compliances • Ensuring alignment to all company policies
and underwritten COP eg ISO as well as environmental regulations • Ensuring procedures and systems are in
place to standardise equipment • Planning and managing resources, including the availability of appropriately
skilled and motivated people and teams • Planning and managing budgets and costs • Leading, influencing
and managing the catering portfolio.
