Management Board Members (CEO, CFO, COO), FINCA Nigeria

FINCA International, one of the world's leading MFIs, provides financial services to nearly 900,000 clients through 21 wholly-owned and operated subsidiaries in Africa, Eurasia, Latin America and the Greater Middle East.
FINCA International is looking for highly-qualified individuals who thrive in greenfield environments to be part of the core Management Board (made up of the CEO, COO and CFO) for start-up of a Nigerian microfinance bank to operate in an area of currently low microfinance penetration.

The CFO and COO will report directly to the CEO, and the CEO will report to the Vice President and Regional Director for Africa and to the subsidiary’s Board of Directors. As members of the Management Board, the CEO, CFO and COO share responsibility for the overall performance and activities of the FINCA subsidiary, and participate in making decisions on material issues.

Tasks:

  • Collaborate with fellow Management Board members to successfully implement a five-year growth plan for savings, loans and other financial services;
  • Ensure effective systems, structures and resources are in place to support the growth of the institution, including a team of well-trained, focused and motivated staff;
  • Continuously expand knowledge of the market and improve the sales methodology, product offerings, delivery channels and banking procedures;
  • Ensure that all business and financial activities support the FINCA subsidiary in pursuing its mission with a minimum of risk and a maximum of efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Banking, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or other relevant field;
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the microfinance and / or banking sector; management experience of at least 3 years required;
  • At least 2 years of international experience desirable, exposure working in the region or country an asset;
  • Start-up or expansion experience in the financial sector (microfinance or banking) highly desirable; demonstrated business acumen in a highly dynamic environment essential;
  • Proven experience in at least four of the following areas, preferably within a banking or microfinance environment: banking operations, lending and credit administration, savings mobilization, marketing/business development, development of financial products, internal controls, risk management, financial management & administration, financial analysis, planning and budgeting, corporate governance, development of organizational structures & systems, personnel management (preferably with 5 or more direct reports), and staff development;
  • Strong computer literacy, particularly in MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint); experienced with Core Banking Systems and good understanding of IS issues and the role of IS in financial and business management;
  • Fluency in English is required

  • Thorough understanding of operational risk of a financial institution;
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships within diverse organizational structure in order to facilitate feedback and enhance implementation;
