Position Overview
BSR implements a wide variety of grant-funded programs with considerable support from private foundations, governments, and multilateral institutions. We work with funders such as the ILO, the World Bank, the US Department of State, MacArthur Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Rockefeller Foundation, Levi Strauss Foundation, and the Swedish and UK governments. Our grant-funded initiatives are global in scope and serve an important role in BSR’s efforts to build partnerships aimed at advancing social and environmental sustainability.
Most of our development projects seek to harness the organizational, operational, technological and financial powers of the private sector in the pursuit of more environmentally and socially sustainable development. Our current and future grants focus on opportunities to promote awareness and action on a wide range of issues, including: women’s health, labor rights, labor migration, climate change, sustainable agriculture, energy efficiency, and Chinese investment in the developing world. As such, it is critical that the Director thrives working in a consultancy environment that connects the private sector with the sustainability and development agendas.
Based in BSR’s Hong Kong office, this position will play a key leadership role in designing, implementing, and managing BSR’s donor-funded work in Asia. The Director will spend roughly 25% of her or his time managing BSR initiatives. The balance of the time will be focused on participating on the global Partnership Development team to connect the relationships in Asia and ideas emanating out of the region more fully to the support and delivery of BSR’s global grant strategy, with a focus on grant opportunities impacting the Asia region. This position reports to the Vice President in charge of partnership development for strategic direction or the Global Partnership Development Director, and the Managing Director for Asia for tactical review.
