Disaster Management Planning Officer PHILIPPINES

Typhoons and flash flooding affect thousands of people in the Philippines each year. Your experience in developing disaster risk reduction plans could help communities and local government to implement appropriate strategies to reduce loss of life and property.
This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development program, an Australian Government, AusAID initiative. Background information
Local government units in the Philippines have taken on a greater role in building community resilience towards natural disasters and in institutionalising measures for reducing disaster risks and enhancing preparedness and response activities.
All provinces, cities and municipalities are now required to have their own Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) office.
An Australian Volunteer with experience in disaster management is now being sought to work with the DRRM office in Bulacan Province in developing a disaster risk reduction management plan. The volunteer will support the team in ensuring that each step of the plan uses participatory processes involving the local community and other key stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Experience developing strategic plans, especially with a disaster risk reduction focus
  • Experience in mobilising participants for community-based projects
  • Experience or training in disaster management or emergency services highly regarded
  • Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years and over, Australian citizens or permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens with Special Category Visas.
