Job Purpose:

To monitor and carry out periodic reviews of economic developments in assigned member countries, including global/ regional markets and trends, relevant to his/her assigned countries.

To become the reference point on all economic information related to the MCs covered (subset of 2-4 countries), including inputs to key divisional documents: MCPS, CPPR, Programming, ESW, project documents.
Responsibilities:

Provide lead economist with macroeconomic data/ analysis on MCs covered (including inputs to the key divisional documents).

Prepare and update Periodical Reports for MCs, including fact sheets, updated country briefs, status of IDB operations, etc.

Create & maintain database on relevant country statistics, including overall macroeconomic performance, poverty, trade, investments, aid / assistance /investments flow, human development indicators and other development indicators.

Prepare country background section of the BED /project related documents on MCs covered for review.

Review, analyze and assess the economic rationale, benefits and impact of the relevant project documentation (including appraisal reports & RRPs)

To provide analytical support to the division on economic issues, relevant to his/her assigned MCs.

Assist in preparing and giving presentations on country and/or project related economic issues.

Engage, communicate and collaborate with colleagues in the Country / Sector Departments, in particular support intra and inter departmental / divisional teams.

Qualification & Experience:

4-6 years of working experience on cross-cutting developmental issues, of which at least 2 years should preferably have been obtained in operations in MDB type environment, providing diagnosis for both sector work and lending

Track record of initiating and carrying out analytical / diagnostic work on development issues.

Economic Policy research / analysis background desirable.

Post graduate degree in Economics from recognized university;

Bachelor's degree in Economics might be deemed acceptable under special circumstances (for ex., distinguished achievements and accomplishments)
Skills & Competencies:

Policy Analysis and Review

Good analytical skills both in micro and macro levels (as evidenced by official / non public publications

Demonstrated interest and capacity to translate analysis into policy advice

Good analytical and economic research / review skills, which can be translated into the strategy / policy advice on assigned MCs.

Desirable to have previous work in MDB type institutions, and exposure / previous work in multicultural staff environment as well as interacting with different MCs.

Some basic understanding and knowledge of the IDB's Strategies / Goals, and overall understanding of the IDB products, services and business environment
