Senior International Development Manager

£37,105 and up to £43,440 for exceptional candidates + benefits
Based in Exeter
The role
The UK Met Office is recognised as being a world leader in weather and climate services. We want to use our expertise to help other nations build their capacity to deal with the environmental hazards they face in the short and long term. Our International Development team has been growing business in developing countries, particularly Africa and Asia. They work with key stakeholders including the local National Met and Hydrological Services (NMHS), the Department for International Development (DfID) and International Financing Institutes (IFIs) to develop an understanding of key requirements and drivers, produce strategies and recommendations and develop successful proposals.
As part of this, the team works in-country to meet with key stakeholders and carry out gap analyses. You’ll join the team leading the development and implementation of business strategy and projects to deliver profitable revenue. Through understanding current and future capabilities, you’ll offer innovative suggestions for our services, helping us improve our revenue and meet customer needs. You’ll take over current relationships and build new ones; developing strategic account management plans to guarantee opportunities for years to come.
The person
You’ve a deep and practical understanding of international development and, whether you’ve worked in another international organisation, overseas, or as a consultant, you know how to work effectively with developing countries. With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you can form and maintain relationships across all levels of business, from those at grass roots up to Ministers and Chief Executives. A strategic and analytical thinker, you can prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines even when working under pressure. You’re proactive, self-motivated and driven, someone with a track record of generating revenue and meeting sales targets, who stays business focused whilst always thinking of customer needs. You’ll be based in the office, but need to be willing to travel about four times a year to visit countries where you’ll help people with a little achieve a lot.
