Terrafina Microfinance Administrative Coordinator

Terrafina Microfinance is a joint microfinance program for Africa, set up by ICCO, Oikocredit and the Rabobank Foundation. Terrafina provides support to local rural microfinance institutions (MFIs) as well as networks and focuses on three rural areas in Africa: West Africa (Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal), and Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi).

About the team

The Terrafina program is executed by a small specialized team of 14 persons, headed by a fund manager, and supervised by a tripartite Board of Governors. The program has 65 microfinance partners in six countries (anglophone and francophone). These microfinance partners are supported with capacity building support, both technical and financial, to help them professionalize. Terrafina is finishing a process of decentralization, in order to operate closer to the microfinance partners and closer to the field offices of our consortium partners Oikocredit and ICCO. Terrafina operates in a diverse network of microfinance practitioners, governments and policy makers, donors & investors and consultants, which makes the work challenging and interesting.

About the position

The administrative coordinator (AC) is responsible for the support processes in Terrafina Microfinance: administrative, secretarial and logistical processes. You provide functional guidance to the support staff, both in Holland and in the field. You make sure that the administrative procedures and processes are up-to-date and functional, and you anchor the administrative compliance and integrity in the programs. With the help of your support team, you produce quarterly and annual figures for Terrafina Microfinance and secure the administrative and secretarial services for the project cycle. You develop and supervise the hosting agreements with consortium partners, in Holland and in the field posts. You support the fund manager in budgeting, MIS and HR issues.

For your support team, you provide a stimulating and committed environment, to enjoy the work as a vital contribution to the field programs. Apart from supervising your team, you take a substantial share in the practical administrative tasks yourselves.

Our requirements

  • Background in administration, organization, HR (> 5 years experience);
  • Experience with leading small (support) teams in international/ intercultural environment; affinity with public-private partnerships in international cooperation is an asset;
  • Analytical mindset, capacity to switch to helicopter views, capacity to make decisions;
  • Hands-on mentality, eye for the detail;
  • Communicative and social skills, team worker, flexibility;
  • Entrepreneurial attitude (creative/ innovative, dare to take calculated risks, coping with change);
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • English + Dutch (French is an asset), versatile with MS-Excell.

From our side, you can count on a working environment with a plenty of room for personal initiative. The employment conditions of ICCO Global Office apply. The position corresponds to salary scale 9 (maximum of € 3.325,-- a month based on fulltime employment of 36 h/week); the function will be included in a broader salary revaluation process in ICCO (last quarter 2012). The location is the ICCO office in Utrecht. The position includes limited missions to the program countries, mainly to supervise administrative arrangements and support staff.
