Environmental Affairs Manager Hitachi Corporate Office Brussels, Belgium

Hitachi Corporate Office, Europe, located in Brussels is looking to recruit an Environmental Affairs Manager. The position will involve maintaining current and driving new EU lobbying and networking activities within the Environmental Policy/Legislative area. The successful candidate will be a self motivator but will also be expected to work closely with the Environment Strategy Office based in Tokyo as well as people responsible for environmental affairs within Hitachi’s Group Companies in Europe.

Key Tasks:

  • Monitoring EU Environmental legislative/policy developments impacting Hitachi businesses;
  • Drafting monthly, bi-monthly and ad-hoc reports on EU Environmental legislative and policy topics;
  • Networking and contact building with EU officials in the environmental area;
  • Setting up ad-hoc meetings with EU officials when necessary;
  • Maintaining close contacts with and advising key Hitachi Group Companies in Europe on environmental legislation/policy;
  • Maintaining contacts and undertaking lobbying activities within Trade Associations that Hitachi is a member of;
  • Establishing contacts with other relevant EU Stakeholders in Brussels and in Europe.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in the EU Environmental Affairs realm (Good understanding of EU legislation on waste, chemicals, and energy, such as WEEE, REACH, and EuP…etc);
  • Experience from one of the EU institutions would be considered a plus;
  • An MA EU politics, environmental studies, economics or law;
  • Experience of working in an international environment, knowledge of Japanese working environment would be a bonus;
  • Fluency in French and English is essential, other languages including Japanese a bonus.
