Geotechnical Engineer Australia

Ten of Barrick’s mining operations are found within the Australia Pacific region, with its regional head office located in Perth, Western Australia.
Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, as our Geotechnical Engineer/Senior, you will be primarily responsible for the short and long term geotechnical planning for our Darlot operation in Western Australia.
You will play a key role in providing geotechnical information to other mining and Geology departments to ensure the mine get optimal extraction.
Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited too:
  • Collection, compilation and analysis of geotechnical data
  • Numerical stress modelling of the underground environment
  • Undertake and document geotechnical risk assessments of all existing and new development areas
  • Monitor quality control of ground support installation and subsequent effectiveness of ground support
  • Design, install and monitor geotechnical instrumentation where required
  • Ensure grouting of ground reinforcement is being undertaken
  • Design ground support
  • Undertake stope performance assessments for each stope and back analyse to ensure an optimal standard of support is maintained and to calibrate stability graph curves
It is expected you will offer a significant amount of experience in an underground environment, including skills and qualifications covering the following:
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
  • Membership of AusIMM
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers LicenceSt Johns Senior First Aid certificate desirable
  • Experience with geotechnical software
  • Experience using VULCAN is desirable
