Global Risk Institute Managing Director, Research

The Global Risk Institute in Financial Services (GRI), a public-private partnership of financial sector companies and the governments of Canada and Ontario, was created when leaders of government and the major financial companies reached a collective understanding that the success of Canada’s financial system could not be taken for granted. In today’s turbulent environment, the Institute’s mission is to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Canadian and indeed global financial services system. This mandate will be achieved through applied research into the integrative management of risks, the advancement of risk education and professional development for practitioners, executives and Board Directors.

The Institute is now seeking to appoint a Managing Director, Research, reporting to GRI’s President and CEO, Michel G. Maila.

In consultation with practitioners, academics and policy makers, the Managing Director, Research will identify emerging and pressing issues in risk management within financial services and lead the development of a research strategy that will inform policy makers, regulators and industry decision makers. Research will be multi-disciplinary and integrative in nature, with a practical, sector-wide focus. While there will be a modest in-house research capability, much of the research will initially be contracted to select universities and other research organizations. The Institute will disseminate research findings and promote international discussion of their implications for the financial services sector.

This is an appointment of consequence for the future of financial services in Canada. With a respected, personal research profile, the Managing Director, Research will be recognized as an important contributor to the current dialogue on financial risk management. S/he will bring to the role an established track record in applied research as well as a perspective that transcends disciplines. In addition, s/he will have experience coordinating teams of multidisciplinary researchers. Exceptional communication and relationship building skills will be essential.
