Labor market expert Pakistan
Chemonics seeks a labor market expert for the ongoing USAID-funded Firms project in Pakistan, which will implement a workforce development program in three targeted locations of Karachi: Sultanabad, Lyrai, and Korangi. The project will conduct a quantitative and qualitative study to determine the sectors facing labor shortages and factors restraining the acquisition of vocational skills. The labor market expert will perform a demand-side analysis of the labor export market by identifying job opportunities available for semi-skilled and skilled laborers in the Middle East. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Read reports by the Ministry of Oversees Pakistanis related to the labor market in the Middle East and other countries and any other relevant studies
- Identify the countries, particularly of the Middle East, that have the potential to provide job opportunities to semi-skilled and skilled Pakistani youth, and analyze their economic growth
- Investigate the emerging employment opportunities in these countries for women and the skills required for these opportunities
- Identify promising vocational trades expected to be in high demand in the near future
- Determine knowledge, skills and experience requirements of identified jobs to help guide potential future USAID youth workforce development interventions
- Conduct focus group discussions with the Ministry of Overseas Employment, recruitment agencies, and Pakistani companies
- Interact with vocational training experts to share data and information
- Contribute to project deliverables addressing job opportunities available for the semi-skilled and skilled labor force in the Middle East and other regions in view of economic growth trends
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required; an advanced degree in business administration, development economics, or social sciences preferred
- Minimum seven years of progressive professional experience related to labor markets, job placement, international labor recruitment, or a similar field
- Understanding of international labor markets
- Experience conducting similar studies or research preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- English fluency required
