Labor market expert - self employment Pakistan

Chemonics seeks a labor market expert focusing on self-employment for the ongoing USAID-funded Firms project in Pakistan, which will implement a workforce development program in three targeted locations of Karachi: Sultanabad, Lyrai, and Korangi. The project will provide skills development opportunities to youth that can help them secure employment in various sectors facing labor shortages. The labor market expert will perform a demand-side analysis of self-employment opportunities available to youth and make recommendations​ for enabling them to embark on self-employment ventures. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world​.

​Responsibilities include:

  • Read reports on various microfinance institutions, nongovernmental organizations, and any other relevant studies
  • Perform a demand-side analysis to identify self-employment opportunities for male and female youth
  • Identify constraints in starting a new microenterprise
  • Determine the microfinancing options, business development services, franchise support, and institutional support currently available for small entrepreneurs, for men and women separately
  • Identify the enterprise development training needs
  • Explore the business linkage prospects for microbusinesses
  • Conduct focus group discussions with various microfinance stakeholders
  • Interact with vocational training experts to share data and information
  • Contribute to project deliverables related to demand-side of employment, including findings, analysis, and recommendations

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required; advanced degree in business administration, development economics, or the social sciences preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive professional experience related to microfinance, entrepreneurship, labor market, and business development services
  • Understanding of microfinancing and entrepreneurship
  • Experience providing business development services to microenterprises preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • English fluency required
