Programme Manager – SIWI Knowledge Services

SIWI is seeking to hire a fulltime Programme Manager to work at Knowledge Services Department.
Knowledge Servicessupport the achievement of SIWI’s vision – A Water Wise World - by providing services to clients worldwide in the area of multi-sector and multi-country water management and development.
Knowledge Services at SIWI focuses on five strategic themes; Water Governance, Transboundary Water Resources Management, Water and Climate Change, Water, Food and Energy Nexus; and Water and Economics.
Through strategic advisory services, applied research, capacity building programmes, partnership and the initiation and implementation of projects and programmes; SIWI supports decision-making processes related to water, sustainable development and land.
In a three to five year period, SIWI Knowledge Services expects to see growth in the work areas run bythe flexible sub-units consisting of Applied Research, Advisory Services, Capacity Building, Water Governance Programme and Swedish Water House.
The international, multidisciplinary character, undertaken projects and number of staff is projected to increase to respond to the increasing demands for support from clients; and to further develop and promote in-house expertise.
Periodic formation of dedicated working groups tailor-made for each short- and long-term project undertaken will be organized to reach our objectives.

The Role of a Programme Manager
The Programme Manager will be part of development and implementation of projects and assignments within the SIWI Knowledge Services through support to the Programme Director.
He/ she will have cross-sectorial responsibility and be part of and manage one or several work groups in collaboration with other colleagues. Role and responsibilities will vary according to undertaken projects.
Duties of a Programme Manager
· Planning, management, implementation and quality control of projects
· Identify and manage new project ideas
· Secure resources for the projects
· Manage team/s of colleagues and external associates
· Budget and financial responsibility
· Maintain relations with partners and clients
· Represent and propose SIWI in relation to external environment
· Overall responsible for management of specific projects.
Other activities can also occur and the tasks can be expected to change over time according to assigned projects.
Education
  • An advanced degree in a field relevant to water resources management, environment and/ or development is required.
Previous Experience
· Project management experience is essential.
In addition, 5 – 10 years’ experience in a majority of the following areas is required:
  • Experience working with water governance issues.
  • In-field implementation of complex projects in developing countries.
  • Experience with water resource governance and IWRM in the transboundary context.
  • Experience working with the water, energy and food nexus; and climate change issues.
  • Experience of conducting applied research and policy development in water resources management
  • Experience in the development and implementation of Capacity Building, training and education activities – preferably in a field related to water resources management.
  • Experience working with the various groups and sectors operating in the field of water management for economic growth and environmental sustainability.
  • Solid experience in development theory, financial flows and aid issues.
  • Experience working in an international context with multilateral and bilateral organisations and specifically working in the developing world.
  • Experience from coordination with partner organizations.
Language and communication skills
  • The applicant must have excellent spoken, written and presentation skills in English. Knowledge of Swedish is not necessary.
  • The ability to speak French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese or Arabic considered an added advantage.
  • Well-developed presentation and public speaking skills.

Other Requirements
· Must be able to travel approximately 30% of the work time.
