Objective of the Position:

The objective of the country representative is to represent Welthungerhilfe within the framework of the valid regional program. Her/his strategic orientation is based on the valid concept papers, regional and country concepts and on the sectoral portfolio.

The country representative is responsible for managing and developing Welthungerhilfe's valid country program. He/she is responsible for coordinating, planning and duly documenting Welthungerhilfe projects and projects carried out in cooperation with partner organisations vis-à-vis Welthungerhilfe and co-financers, and if required, carry out the organization’s own projects.

 

Duties

Planning

The country representative

·       identifies, examines, comments on and pre-selects new project ideas on the basis of the country concept

·       prepares the annual plan and secures an appropriate budgetary plan (medium-term budget) for the respective regional office

·       submits co-financing applications

·       negotiates with local co-financers

Implementation and coordination

The country representative

·       coordinates the work of the country team ensuring team spirit, motivation. commitment of the staff and good information flow

·       works with partner organizations in accordance with the co-financing agreement and Welthungerhilfe standards

·       provides content-related support and monitors activities according to the project

·       comments on and informs the regional office of applications for budget adjustments while the project is being carried out (quantity structure)

·       monitors progress of project (progress and completeness check for the status report and transfer)

·       examines status reports in co-financed projects

·       prepares quarterly reports and informs the regional office of political, economic and social developments in the country

Networking and Partner work

·       actively participates or ensures participation by Welthungerhilfe in critical national networks related to hunger and poverty

·       develops the Welthungerhilfe portfolio of national partner organizations in accordance to the strategic directions

·       develops the donor relations and identifies new co-financers, including national fund raising

·       represents the needs and agenda of the country office within the organization at regional and global level.

·       participates in Alliance2015 initiatives

 

Miscellaneous

The country representative

·       is responsible for the security of expatriate and local staff in the country, implementing the appropriate security plan and reporting to the regional office

·       prepares the introduction and implementation of a National Staff Policy in cooperation with the Regional Director (e. g. remuneration, travel expenses)

·       takes on further duties which arise during the course of an assignment in the country

·       Other duties as communicated by the Regional Director

 

Place in the organizational structure

·       The Country Representative is based in New Delhi

·       She/he reports to the Regional Director South Asia

·       She/he supervises the country team

·       She/he is part of the Regional Management Team which consists of her/him as well as the other Country Directors (currently Nepal and Sri Lanka), the Regional Program Manager and the Regional Finance and Administration Head

·       She/he is also part of the Global Management Conference of Welthungerhilfe, which meets annually

 

Requirements

1.     National from India

2.     Master Degree or PHD in a related subject

3.     Proven record of progressive and successful work of more than 12 years in the development sector with a minimum of 6 years being at a senior level managing programs with multiple staff, diverse stakeholders and substantial funding

4.     Excellent people’s skills

5.     Exceptional analytical and writing skills

6.     Good networker with intensive contacts in the country

7.     Willingness to travel extensively

8.     Fluency in English is a prerequisite, German knowledge will be an asset

 

Conditions

This is a national position based in India.

Gross Salary ranges between INR 16 and 17 Lakh / year
