SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is looking for a:
Senior Advisor Knowledge Networking and Profiling - WASH
(Based in The Hague, The Netherlands)
In order to reinforce SNV’s knowledge networking role and external profiling (particularly in the Netherlands), we are now recruiting for a Senior Advisor in WASH.
The advisor will be placed at SNV’s Head Office in The Hague and is part of the global Strategy Unit. The Strategy Unit supports the Managing Board in developing the strategic orientations of SNV at short, medium and long term. The unit keeps track of relevant external and internal policy trends, profiles and positions SNV with key external stakeholders (Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, donors, development organisations, research institutes, enterprises, media and politicians) and supports Business Development in relevant areas. The Strategy Unit has a particular focus on Knowledge Networking and Evidence Based Advocacy.
Key responsibilities:
The advisor has the following responsibilities:
  • Provide advice on SNV’s positioning (relevance, investment) in the WASH sector  from a global and corporate perspective;
  • Design a coherent and focused knowledge programme that is strongly rooted in existing programmes, ensure external funding and support its implementation;
  • Support SNV’s corporate policies in terms of strategic orientation, coherence, quality management, external profiling and partnerships, innovation solutions across geographical and content boundaries;
  • Represent and profile SNV pro-actively and externally (mainly in the Netherlands and Europe) on WASH at conferences, in networks, through articles with emphasis on knowledge and innovation;
  • Develop and maintain a network with key stakeholders (mainly in the Netherlands and Europe) and translate relevant policy trends in recommendations and advice for SNV;
  • Contribute to Business Development activities in WASH with emphasis on the knowledge program and on innovation.
Candidate profile:
The following requirements are important for us.
  • University degree in the field of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, development sciences, economics or business administration;
  • Affinity with SNV’s mission and ways of working;
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience, including a variety of aspects of advisory work and knowledge development in the field of WASH;
  • Sound experience with knowledge development, organizational learning and innovation;
  • Successful experiences in Business Development particularly in WASH;
  • Flexible team player familiar with an international organization;
  • Strong speaker, writer and debater with experience in profiling the content of our work in international settings and circles;
  • Well developed and proven representative skills and relevant up to date network with academic and  knowledge institutions,  international organisations and private sector in WASH;
  • Given the profiling role in the Netherlands, verbal and written fluency in Dutch is required.

Contract duration: 1 year initially
