journalism and multimedia production expert trainer for project in the Middle East

For most people around the world, access to reliable information is by no means a matter of course. Nevertheless, everyone needs impartial information. So that they can assess their own situation and influence it. If you don’t know what’s going on around you, how can you make the right decisions?

Free Press Unlimited works to ensure that reliable news and information are and remain available to people across the globe. Particularly people in countries where there is little to no press freedom. By supporting local media professionals and journalists, Free Press Unlimited helps to enable as many people as possible to gain and keep access to the information they require to survive and develop.

Would you like to help journalists who are working under harsh conditions to make professional journalism? And is it your wish to support Free Press Unlimited to contribute to the development of open and democratic societies, by supporting independent media in conflict regions and countries in transition?

Free Press Unlimited is looking for an expert trainer and practitioner to train a large group of “starter young journalists” in the Middle East. Theory and practice on basic principles of journalism, ethics, news gathering and selection, writing, shooting audio/visual material, editing and story angles will equip the journalists with skills, good practices and lessons learned to produce at international standard news content, respecting output targets and deadlines. These intensive short trainings last up to 7 to 10 days, per selected group.

The trained pool of young journalists are expected to produce daily multimedia content, where besides text, sound, still and moving images need high attention and care. After the training all journalists should be able to contribute in normal and urgent conditions, and in times of crisis. The use of mobile phones for reporting and how to use social media to distribute are also part of the training. Practical exercises will be combined with theory on field reporting, smart but safe story shooting.

The trainer is expected to develop and/or gather training materials. It is important that the trainer should speak fluent Arabic and (preferably) English, have experience with teaching and proven experience with training methodology. The start date is urgent.

Free Press Unlimited’s conditions are: a lump sum (to be negotiated depending on experience and skills); for those not living in the region, accommodation and international transfers; per diems (F&B and local transportation).
The trainer/expert needs to have the following qualifications:
  • Relevant educational background and/or working experience in news gathering and production;
  • Experience with multimedia news production;
  • Good analytic skills and ability to evaluate people;
  • Training experience; including training material and methodology
  • Having knowledge of the media and information market in the Middle East is an asset;
  • Fluency in Arabic and English.
