Organizational Setting |
The Division of Nuclear Power (NENP) is one of two Divisions in the
Department of Nuclear Energy and comprises the Nuclear Power Engineering
Section, the Nuclear Power Technology Development Section, the
Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Group and the International Project on
Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycle Group. The Division provides
core engineering, technological, human resource development and
management support to interested Member States in the field of nuclear
power. The main objectives are: to respond to the needs of interested
Member States in improving their national nuclear power infrastructures
and programmes and to evaluate the need for possible replacement
technology within the country; to act as a catalyst for innovation and
to assist, as appropriate, in the resolution of scientific and
technological issues in the area of nuclear power, including electricity
generation and other uses such as desalination and hydrogen production;
and to manage, preserve and further enhance nuclear expertise and
knowledge, competence and effectiveness in support of Member States, and
to sustain the IAEA's unique position as the leading global
international organization in the nuclear field.

Main purpose |
The Nuclear Information Specialist applies the information technology
to enhance the effectiveness of Division's activities in the areas of:
collaboration in nuclear reactor technology development amongst Agency
staff and experts in Member States; implementation and maintenance of
technical databases and software; preparation of technical documents and
presentations. The Nuclear Information Specialist manages and publishes
databases and web-applications in order to contribute to the IAEA's
overall objective of fostering the exchange of information.
The Nuclear Information Specialist is also the IT coordinator for the Division and supports staff in effective use of the IAEA IT infrastructure to perform their programmatic activities. The Nuclear Information Specialist applies a combination of scientific knowledge and knowledge of information systems to create effective and useful information systems to meet the needs of the Division. |
Role |
The Nuclear Information Specialist is (1) a technical expert,
working with colleagues to support and enhance the effectiveness of
collaboration in nuclear reactor technology development amongst Agency
staff and experts in Member States; to implement and maintain technical
databases and software, including databases accessible via the Internet;
(2) a custodian of several databases and nuclear simulation
programmes, collecting, reviewing and disseminating the information by
establishing networks; (3) a programmer and developer of several databases and their web sites, applying relevant software development technologies; and (4) an IT coordinator
of the Division, coordinating its IT needs with centralized IT support.
IT coordinator maintains information on the Division hardware and
software resources, determines needs, and orders new hardware and
software as appropriate.

Partnerships |
The Nuclear Information Specialist develops collaborative working
relationships with the external and in-house IT experts regarding
software development and implementation. Also, the Nuclear Information
Specialist interacts with the other IAEA organizational units in the
field of IT and with all Division staff to advise and support them on
the effective use of IT infrastructure.

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package
including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $56 091 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a
variable post adjustment
which currently amounts to US $29 055*, dependency benefits,
rental subsidy,
education grant,
relocation and
repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation,
home leave,
pension plan and
health insurance.
