Join a new and growing office with important financial stability responsibilities.
The U.S. Congress created the Office of Financial Research (OFR) within the Treasury Department in 2010 to serve the needs of the Financial Stability Oversight Council and member agencies, collect and standardize financial data, perform essential research, and develop new tools for measuring and monitoring risk in the financial system.
The OFR seeks to attract experienced macro and financial economists and statisticians to serve as Associate Directors in our Research and Analysis Center.  Candidates will head and manage teams in the following subject areas:  Macroeconomics; Financial Institutions and Markets; Statistics and Risk Management; and Applied Sciences
This is a unique opportunity to expand scholarship in the new field of macroprudential analysis for the benefit of policymakers using financial data unavailable elsewhere.
Associate Directors are key members of our management team.  They are involved in every aspect of our research mission—setting research priorities; hiring and managing research teams; providing leadership on financial research projects; contributing to recommendations on financial stability policy; and supporting the Office’s data and data standards initiatives.  Associate Directors also will help the OFR reach out to develop a community of practice among regulators, market practitioners, and academic economists.
Successful candidates will have excelled both in the conduct of research and the management of the research process.  While they may have gained that experience in an academic setting, in the financial world, or at a regulatory institution, the key to success will be a proven ability to analyze complex questions, lead multiple projects, and manage relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.  Outstanding written and oral communications skills are essential, including the ability to address a non-technical audience.
Salaries and benefits are competitive with similar high-level positions at federal regulatory agencies covered by FIRREA.
