Customer Manager, China Duty Free, GTME Asia PacificShanghai, China

Top 3-5 Accountabilities

1. Understand what creates value for customers and deliver on it.
ยท         Develop and deliver customer specific strategies and commercial plans that explore and exploit opportunities to grow both businesses.
ยท         Build superb, mutually beneficial, collaborative relationships with key customer contacts.
ยท         Negotiate and agree sales drivers including pricing, distribution, share of space, and marketing / promotional calendars.
 
 

  • 2. Achieve amazing outcomes together with other Diageo markets and our supply chain partners.
    ยท         Work closely with Diageoโ€™s domestic markets to ensure a seamless brand experience for the consumer and to explore and exploit mutual growth opportunities.
    ยท         Liaise closely with Diageoโ€™s supply division to ensure that there is a timely and superb service to our customers and to find new ways to create value.
    ยท         Timely and accurate demand forecasting will play a key role in managing supply to customers and business performance.
     
     

  • 3. Execute great shopping experiences and offers for our consumers.
    ยท         Develop a range of shopper and consumer insights, market and brand understanding and convert these into actions to unlock opportunities.
    ยท         Partner with customers to create a compelling retail environment.
    ยท         Launch and support a constant stream of new innovations to delight customers and consumers.
    ยท         Monitor competitor activity and take actions to continually develop the category and grow Diageoโ€™s brand share.
    ยท         Influence the development of the brand, regional and channel plans by providing knowledge, data and insights relating to the local business environment.
     
     

  • 4. Be an ambassador for Diageo and Diageoโ€™s brands.

    Qualifications and Experience Required

    To succeed in this role the Customer Manager will:
    ยท         Have the commercial maturity that comes with at least 5 years sales/commercial/account management experience, ideally gained within a consumer goods and/or retail environment.
    ยท         Experience in China and Travel Retail / Duty Free highly favourable.
    ยท         Have retail marketing and execution experience and instinct.
    ยท         Have a sound understanding of category management.
    ยท         Be of graduate calibre, or equivalent.
    ยท         Possess cultural awareness appropriate to the customer environment.
    ยท         Have the ability to create and inspire energy for their plans and ideas and to cut through a complex environment to make things happen.
    ยท         Be a confident and strong influencer and negotiator, with a range and adaptability of style.
    ยท         Be able to generate and interpret shopper and consumer insights.
    ยท         Be highly analytical and data literate, forecasting accurately, and understanding and evaluating the profit impact of their actions.
    ยท         Be a superb planner, able to bring together and reconcile a complex matrix of brand, customer and consumer needs.
    ยท         Have a proven ability in implementing strategy, solving complex problems and decision making.
    ยท         Be passionate about our brands and hungry to succeed.
    ยท         Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin (business) are essential.

    Barriers to Success in Role

    ยท         Low resilience and inability to operate successfully in a fast moving, highly demanding, and often pressurised environment.
    ยท         Lack of commercial and marketing competency, consumer insight, retail instinct and understanding of brand marketing strategies.
    ยท         Lack of capability in the areas of analytics, data literacy, planning, problem solving, and decision making.
