Nutrition Data Analyst

Under the overall supervision of the Officer in Charge (O.I.C.) FAO Somalia and of the Project Manager/ CTA and the direct supervision of the Data Systems & Information Manager, the Nutrition Data Analyst will focus on the following areas and tasks:
The Nutrition Data Analyst will focus on the following areas and tasks;
• Lead Analyst in conducting analysis and identifying associations between nutrition indicators and other indicators relating to public health, water and sanitation, care practices and food security.
o Identification and completion of statistical tests for more complex analysis of nutrition indicators focusing on the contributing factors to malnutrition in Somalia the effect of livelihood, season and ethic groups and the trends over time.
o Training and regular support to Nairobi and Field based nutrition staff in the application and running of this analysis after conducting a survey of needs of staff
• Maintenance of developed database of historical nutrition data, ensuring the database and analysis is up to date as new surveys are completed, in collaboration with nutrition team.
• In collaboration with the Data Analyst, link the nutrition database with the integrated database to allow for integrated analysis.
• Review baseline nutrition information by livelihood for FSNAU for Somalia referring to the database of historical nutrition data identifying typical trends of acute malnutrition by livelihood over time.
• Collaborate with the Food Security Baseline lead and Food Security Data Analyst to ensure an integrated analysis of all the baseline data by livelihood in Somalia referring to the Somali Integrated Spreadsheet.
• Focal point for HIS software working in close collaboration with UNICEF
• Contribute to developing, piloting, implementation and utilisation of the HIS software
• Enhance linkage of nutrition data within food security analysis templates
• Identify opportunities for linking market and nutrition data for better understanding of possible associations.
• Contribute to action research to stay up to date of new developments in nutrition information and analysis through building a network of contacts (with support from the Nutrition Technical Manager(NTM)) and through regular monitoring of appropriate websites
• Represent the FSNAU nutrition team in interagency, information systems and statistics working groups for Somalia.
• Contribute to production and dissemination of nutrition quality control information through FSNAU’s publications
• Coordinate the development of documents on nutrition information analysis processes in collaboration with the Nutrition Team
• Participate in external training for partners on nutrition assessment analysis in collaboration with the Nutrition Team.
• In collaboration with the NTM and the Research Manager, contribute to the development and implementation of specific research initiatives related to nutrition and food security in Somalia. Identify key statistical associations requiring further analysis and develop suitable proposals for such studies – focus on development and analysis of feeding centre performance indicators
• Preparation of presentations on the relevant analysis as requested by the Nutrition Technical Manager
• Undertake other tasks related to the project as required.
Education:
• Master levels in Nutrition or related discipline
Work Experience:
• A minimum of three years experience in emergency nutrition programmes with direct experience in nutrition information systems including conducting nutrition assessments according to international standards/ guidelines
• Experience in complex analysis of nutrition data including identification of underlying causes, trends analysis and impact of seasonality.
