Agricultural trade specialist , Kenya

Chemonics seeks an agricultural trade specialist for the anticipated USAID East Africa U.S. Trade and Investment Center Program. The program will aim to increase economic growth, resilience, and integration by promoting an enabling environment for trade and investment intra-regionally and internationally between East Africa and the United States. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. This position is located in Kenya.

Responsibilities include:
  • Working to promote and implement an improved agriculture enabling policy environment, including supporting regional and national level policy dialogues
  • Developing regional common standards in staple crops 
  • Promoting structured trading systems
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in agriculture, agricultural business, agricultural marketing, or related field required; master's degree strongly preferred 
  • Minimum 10 years of experience developing agricultural trade in developing countries, preferably in Africa; three to five years of private sector experience highly desired 
  • Experience working with end market requirements, trends in the end market, and buyers regionally or internationally
  • Experience with setting up the channels and facilities of agricultural trade
  • Experience interacting with the key value chain stakeholders
  • Experience achieving increased competitiveness in agricultural products in the developing country context
  • Skills for fostering inter-firm collaboration and cooperation with associations, donors, and government
  • Ability to work collaboratively with institutional and private sector partners and stakeholders in a multi-country setting
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to use the latest ICT technology and computer software programs
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluent English required​​​
