Deputy chief of party of programs

Chemonics seeks a deputy chief of party of programs for the anticipated USAID-funded Tusome Early Grade Reading project in Kenya. The project is expected to improve the reading skills of approximately 5.4 million children during the 2014-2017 school years by creating interventions that expand and bring to scale a proven model for improved results in early grade literacy in Kenya. Specific activities will include the production and distribution of materials, training of nearly 100,000 education personnel, private sector and youth engagement pilot initiatives, and institutional capacity building of the Kenyan government. The deputy chief of party of programs will work under the leadership of the chief of party and will support the organization in appropriate technical and coordination aspects of the project. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education, social sciences, or a relevant field to education programs from an accredited university
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant technical experience in program management in developing countries, preferably in the implementation of a national scale-up and coordination of such activities
  • Capacity to provide overall results-driven project leadership, management, and technical direction
  • Demonstrated exemplary management, communications, and interpersonal skills to ensure internal coherence among diverse team members and productive relations with the Kenyan government, donors, and the international community
  • Experience implementing an early grade reading program in a developing country, preferably in Kenya or East Africa is highly desired
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • English fluency required
