Postdoc position in Microbial Biotechnology

Postdoc position in Microbial Biotechnology

At the Department of Biotechnology a three year Postdoc position is open. The position is financed by the Research Council of Norway and is part of the project «Novel microbes for high level production of the omega3-fatty acid DHA and astaxanthin from biomass feedstocks.»
This is a joint project between SINTEF Materials and Chemistry and NTNU Department of Biotechnology The main goal of the project is to design, engineer and improve selected thraustochytrid strains for high level production of DHA and astaxanthin. Thraustochytrids are marine unicellular eukaryotes related to microalgae. The postdoc will mainly work on development and use of methods for genetic modification of the selected strain and on comparative transcriptome studies.
The applicant must hold a PhD in molecular biology, biotechnology or similar fields, and experience with experimental work is required. Experience with using molecular biology methods on thraustochytrids or similar eukaryotes and with transcriptome analyses or genome annotation is considered an advantage. The candidate must document ability to work independently and in groups, and ability to publish scientific papers. Experience with supervision of students is considered an advantage.
The appointment of the Postdoc will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees. Post doc positions are normally remunerated in salary code 57 on the Norwegian Government pay scale, gross NOK 473100 per year before tax. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
