OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To contribute to the improvement of the Organization, management and delivery of health services in Zanzibar.
Description of duties:
Under the supervision of WHO Representative (Tanzania), the incumbent will perform the following functions:
Serve as a team leader to WHO staff assigned to Zanzibar and within that context as WHO Public Health Administrator in Zanzibar ;
Collaborate with the Government, in analysing health needs and resources and also in planning, implementing and evaluating the national public health programmes;
Keep the Government fully informed of the scope and type of cooperation which the Organisation is in position to make available;
Keep the WHO Representative (Tanzania) informed of all facts and developments which concern the organisation;
Disseminate information on resolutions of the World Health Assembly and the Executive Board resolution of the Regional Committee, communications from the Director General and decisions of the Regional Director concerning WHO which affect WHO activities in Zanzibar;
Support Zanzibar to assess their health systems performance and to define a most appropriate interventions to strengthen health systems;
Prepare and update Zanzibar profile data sheets and participate in other UNDP activities related to national programming;
Participate, as requires, in the preparation of health policy and strategic plans of the United Republic of Tanzania
Participate, as requires, in the preparation of Government requests for technical cooperation with WHO;
Establish contact with all Zanzibar's institutions and associations concerned with health;
Maintain contact with local public information media to enhance the adequacy and accuracy of coverage of the Organisation's activities in the various news media;
Undertake such other functions as may be assigned from time to time by the WHO Representative;
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Medical degree with post graduate degree in Public Health.
Desirable: Postgraduate training in Health Management. 
Skills: 
Knowledge of health strategy based on PHC. The Regional Strategies related to priority diseases, WHO Country Strategies;
Ability to maintain excellent working relations with national and international staff.
Experience:
Essential: Seven years of progressive experience in public health at peripheral and central levels in a developing country and at least two years at the international level
Desirable: Experience working in WHO.
Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of other WHO official languages is an advantage.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$ 67,395 at single rate
US$ 72,373 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 51.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
