Research Assistant, Engelberg Center on Healthcare Reform

BASIC FUNCTION

Support Engelberg Center on Healthcare Reform (ECHCR) projects with research and analysis on a broad range of topics including regulatory science, comparative effectiveness research, patient-centered outcomes research, drug and medical device safety, US health policy, patient engagement, and biomedical innovation. Primary responsibilities include conducting background research, drafting summary documents, policy briefs, and supporting paper development.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. A strong interest in biomedical science and health policy with a minimum of one year of research experience in academia, government, or a research organization is required. Training or research experience in the fields of epidemiology, molecular biology, genetics, patient safety, clinical research or health policy is preferred. Familiarity with medical product regulation is preferred. Candidate must have Internet researching skills and the capacity to learn job specific software programs.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Exceptional organizational, communication and writing skills required. Candidate should be self- motivated and competent to undertake multiple research and writing assignments simultaneously with minimal supervision. Candidate must have Internet researching skills and the capacity to learn job specific software programs and be proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

70% Research

  • Collaborate with senior staff to perform research and drafting materials to support project activities.
  • Conduct literature reviews, develop drafts of background materials, meeting summaries, and policy analysis papers on a broad range of health policy topics including regulatory science, comparative effectiveness research, patient-centered outcomes research, drug and medical device safety, US health policy, patient engagement, and biomedical innovation.
  • Assist in the identification of content experts and stakeholder groups through independent research, phone interviews and correspondences.
  • Monitor current events and prepare internal briefing materials on assigned topic areas by ongoing review of relevant sources (e.g., news, legislation, policy statements, etc.), and attending meetings.
  • Support senior staff by developing draft PowerPoint presentations, speaking points and policy briefs.
  • Other research tasks as assigned.

30% Project Coordination

  • Coordinate with senior and administrative staff to organize and plan convening activities targeted specific policy and program issues.
  • Support Associates and Research Directors in proposal development as needed.
  • Other project tasks as assigned.
