The Position:
CSIRO’s Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) Engagement Team provides a single point of contact for Australian SME’s to interact with the whole of CSIRO and the National Innovation System. They work to attract and engage Australian SME’s that can make a positive economic, social and environmental impact through interactions with research.
We are seeking to appoint an SME Engagement Manager who has the enthusiasm and passion to contribute to our country by working with small and medium sized businesses. The SME Engagement Manager will identify and support SMEs who want to implement science and innovation to grow and generate new wealth, for their company in Australia.
The job liaises between research organisations and SMEs who want to use science and technology to improve their business by the application of research. The role is for someone who operates well in ambiguous situations with a high level of autonomy. There will be freedom to network with dynamic small companies and you will need discipline and focus to pull together tangible projects with the SME.
Specifically you will:
- Progress opportunities for SME engagement to achieve outcomes of benefit to Australian SMEs, Enterprise Connect and CSIRO.
- Identify technical solutions for high potential SMEs and managing the development of commercial arrangements between CSIRO, SMEs and other parties as required.
- Facilitate the planning of workshops and networking events.
- Present and promote the use of science and technology to address challenges and develop opportunities for creating competitive advantage in Australian SMEs.
- Facilitating the application of various grants programs, such as the Enterprise Connect Researchers in Business program, to assist SMEs to apply and utilise science and technology.

Salary: $106k - $124k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will have:
- Direct experience of working in an SME and bringing knowledge and technology into a business, to solve a problem or address a market need.
- Demonstrated capability to identify mutual alignment of interests across multiple stakeholders, with the ability to communicate the intangible business benefits of projects.
- Demonstrated achievement in developing and maintaining business relationships including multiple clients and stakeholder management and a proven ability to build collaborative partnerships that achieved tangible outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work with senior management, providing information and advice on business and commercial activities
- Demonstrated ability to quickly develop and implement plans to address a wide variety of technical challenges, based on knowledge and understanding of the business and technologies relevant to the sustainability of the business.
