The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) (www.nri.org) is an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy and training to support sustainable development, economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries. The Livelihoods and Institutions Group is a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of social and institutional development specialists. Working in partnership with developing country institutions, we apply our social and institutional analysis skills to contribute to programmes of research and innovation in rural and natural resource development.
Our underlying objectives are to ensure that programmes respond to the needs of poor people; are sensitive to difference and disadvantage relating to gender, age and ethnicity; involve effective participation of partners and key stakeholders in programme design and implementation; and deliver results on a sustainable basis.
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Research Fellow to join our team, to expand our capacity in monitoring and evaluation and impact assessment. 
The post-holder will contribute to one or more of following work areas some or all of the following areas.
  • Innovation and rural livelihoods - assessment of impacts of programmes working to improve the livelihoods and incomes of natural resource users, processors and enterprises along the value chain. The particular focus is on poverty impacts, social and gender relations, livelihoods and rural economic development.
  • Institutional development and capacity strengthening.
  • Risk, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change.
This specific post will initially focus (80%) on a large cassava project working in five Africa countries. For the first five years, the post will be based in Abeokuta, Nigeria for a period of 5 years from April 2014. 
The position will involve frequent overseas travel within sub-Saharan Africa.
An allowance for local costs would payable if the post is based in Nigeria.

Salary Scale: Pro rata to £36,298 to £44,607
