Research Assistant/Research Analyst, Center for Universal Education
BASIC FUNCTION
Provides research assistance, analytical support, and writing for Director of the Center for Universal Education (CUE) and other scholars as needed. Participates in the dissemination, communication, and presentation of research findings.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, political science, education, development, economics, or related field required (Master’s degree preferred); Minimum of one year of research experience required. Strong academic record. Experience with empirical research preferred. Demonstrated experience in working with governmental, NGOs, and international/multilateral organizations on international development issues preferred. Competence to undertake research assignments with minimal supervision. Experience with various methodologies, including randomized controlled trials, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of international economics, development, and education required. Knowledge of quantitative data analysis, SAS, STATA, and related econometric packages preferred. Superior research skills coupled with excellent oral and written communication skills required. Strong computer skills, particularly in developing professional-level presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, as well as facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. Professional demeanor and high level of comfort working with high-profile individuals from government/international sector. Ability to work well under pressure with discretion and mature judgment. Team player and fast learner preferred. Independent research experience preferred. Proficiency in foreign languages is a plus.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
90% Research Assistance
- Conducts research assignments on a broad range of topics related to global education and learning, including but not limited to the post-2015 development and education agenda, the economic returns on education investment, global public goods, and intervention aid architectures.
- Collects, assembles, and maintains datasets for quantitative analysis within STATA and Microsoft Excel.
- Conducts quantitative data analysis, compiles, and organizes datasets, and presents the results of empirical analysis in table and graphical formats to complement published material and into Microsoft PowerPoint slides.
- Collects, monitors, and analyzes relevant information pertaining to education from conferences and seminars, government documents, legislative activity, academic journals and policy publications, institutional databases, and reports from a wide variety of sources, including development organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
- Writes summary reports, chronologies, and briefing memos; reports on forums, symposia, and conferences; compiles abstracts, summaries, and analyses of journals, abstracts, books, and news articles.
- Reviews and updates existing data and footnotes; helps with editing and proof reading of publications.
- Participates in relevant conferences, meetings, and briefings initiated by CUE and other partner organizations; serves as a project liaison and note taker, writing summary reports as necessary.
10% General Communications Assistance
- Assists with the organization of meetings and conferences related to the Director’s work, in collaboration with program staff.
- Works with the program’s web site coordinator to oversee content of project-specific web pages and publications.
- Other duties as assigned.
