The opportunity
We are looking for a Wirth Pump and Mills Technical Officer, based at our aluminium operation, Yarwun, to assist the Wirth Pumps and Mills Maintenance team scope, plan and execution of equipment improvement activities in a safe, cost effective and timely manner to achieve production targets and business objectives.
Located 10 km north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, Yarwun is wholly owned and operated by Rio Tinto Alcan. The world class refinery incorporates leading edge technology and environmental design which are also featured in Yarwun 2; the current expansion to the refinery. What the role entails
This position is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly ambitious individual. Residentially based in Gladstone (Monday to Friday roster) and reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent - Wirth Pumps & Mills, you will be:
- Maintaining the Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA) Yarwun plant and equipment to achieve sustainable health, safety, environment, asset reliability and cost objectives
- Leading small project improvement project activities and project teams and participating in reliability improvement initiatives
- Undertaking an active role in planning and executing shutdowns in the area and making improvements in maintenance documentation such as drawings, manuals and procedures
- Using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) tools for identifying and eliminating repeat failures and conducting or participating in RCA reviews into equipment reliability
- Identifying improvement opportunities, scoping and planning implementation
- Updating equipment maintenance strategies and improving spares identification and BOM (Bill of Materials) information
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
- A Certificate III in Mechanical trade
- Extensive post-trade experience as a mechanical tradesperson in the mining or refining industry
- A strong commitment towards safety
Experience in Alumina plant or a Bayer process will be desirable.
