Junior expert Corporate Communications

As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ also operates on behalf of other public and private sector clients in Europe and abroad. These include European Union Institutions, such as the European Commission.
For our operations in Brussels, Belgium, we are looking for a
Junior expert for Corporate Communications
Field of activity
GIZ’s Corporate Communications Unit has the task of presenting the company, its services and successes, and the principles and values on which its work is based, in a convincing manner both within the organisation itself and to the outside world. The Corporate Communications Unit determines both the communication strategy and how GIZ should be presented in the public sphere. It uses press and publicity tools to position GIZ in public and provides information about what GIZ does and how it does it; the Unit also uses internal communication instruments to provide information for the staff members and help them identify with GIZ.
Your tasks
You will support our Corporate Communications Unit in Brussels. This will include various activities for internal and external communication, such as:
• researching topics for GIZ’s internal and external media
• editing texts for internal and external media
• drawing up communication concepts
• conceptual design and production of communication materials
• maintaining and expanding media contacts
• conceptual design, organisation and communicative support for events
• cooperating with external communication providers and partners
• preparation and follow-up for workshops and meetings.
In addition, you will support the day-to-day work of the Corporate Communications Unit in Brussels.
Your profile
You have a university degree, preferably in communication or media studies, journalism, or a related arts or social science subject.
You are familiar with the tasks and tools of modern corporate communications and have acquired initial professional experience in a PR agency, journalism and/or corporate communications.
You already have insights into the topics and the working practices of the European Union and the media landscape in Brussels. You are interested in international cooperation topics; familiarity with the activities of GIZ would be an advantage.
You have good conceptual skills, you think in an analytical manner focused on practical implementation, and you work systematically. You have very good editorial skills and are quick to understand new situations, which enables you to express complex ideas comprehensibly for the target group both in print and for electronic media. You have excellent communication skills coupled with a very good writing style.
You are flexible, are a skilled organiser, and are quick to grasp new topics. You like working independently with a focus on results. You enjoy working with other teams and cooperation partners to develop concepts and realise ideas.
Your native language is German. You also speak and write English fluently. Command of another foreign language, preferably French, would be an advantage.
Assignment
The assignment is expected to start as soon as possible and to run until September 2015.
What we offer
We offer a performance-related salary based on the provisions in Belgium.
If you are interested, please send your application by 15 August 2014 to carolin.bansbach@giz.de and submit three samples of your editorial writing with your application.
