The University of Sunderland has long been known as a forward thinking and innovative organisation and puts student and staff experience at the heart of our strategy. We were recently named as one of the best University workplaces in the Times Higher Education Best University Workplace Survey.
We currently have an opportunity for an experienced project management professional to join the team and contribute to the successful delivery of some of the University’s key projects such as Attendance Monitoring which contribute directly to the University’s strategic objectives.
You will be able to communicate effectively with a range of audiences and have experience of working to deadlines and managing your own time. Strong IT skills are required and it would be advantageous to have experience of Microsoft Office and software tools to support the project management processes such as mind mapping and Microsoft Project.
You must be able to demonstrate experience of project management methods (e.g. PRINCE2 and Agile) and be well versed in project planning and control techniques. You should also be familiar with working with IT service management, data and security standards.
The successful candidate will be appointed as either a Project Manager or Project Officer, depending upon relevant experience.
To join us as a Project Manager you will be expected to lead medium to large size projects, working closely with the project board, senior managers and stakeholders from across the University to ensure the success of key projects. You will facilitate business process reviews and any associated business analysis requirements and ensure effective communication and reporting channels are in place to provide timely information to key stakeholders. It is essential that you are educated to graduate / post-graduate level or equivalent experience and you must have demonstrable experience of undertaking the full remit of a complex project.
To join us as a Project Officer you will be expected to lead small to medium size projects, and support the delivery of large projects across the University. It is essential that you are educated to graduate / post-graduate level or equivalent experience and you must have demonstrable experience of project management, including: project planning, risk analysis, resource management, progress monitoring and review.
The post is offered on a fixed term basis for 12 months initially, with the successful candidate taking up the post as soon as possible. The University supports flexible working and would therefore consider applications from people wishing to work on a job-share basis in either the Project manager or Project Officer role.
You may be required to work flexibly and this may include the need to work outside of normal working hours, on evenings or at weekends as the need arises. Travel between the University’s campuses in Sunderland is likely together with occasional visits to University’s London campus.
