Senior Programme Manager – Support and Surge

Please note: This role is being advertised as London-based, but could be based in any of WaterAid's operational countries, preferably in a country with easy transport routes. Pay and benefits will be adjusted according to location.

WaterAid is looking for a highly skilled Senior Programme Manager to play a vital support and surge role in our mission to transform lives with safe water, sanitation and hygiene in the world’s poorest communities.  

Working within the Programme Support Unit, the Senior Programme Manager will provide support and surge in one or more of the following areas: 

• Setting up new large programmes of work
• Providing relief capacity in cases where senior programme management positions fall vacant
• Supporting the improvement of programme management processes and capacity
• Supporting the respective country programme to maintain effective programme management in times of expansion or change

To be successful you will need:

• Relevant qualifications, experience and skills in development-focused programme, budget and grant management at a senior level
• A core understanding of water, sanitation and hygiene development
• Significant experience and skills in capacity building and training, particularly in the development and mentoring of staff
• Proven ability to work with people from a range of cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds and with different skills, and build effective relationships
• Ability to travel significantly on assignments ranging from two weeks up to three months, up to as much as 80% of the role
