ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for a Campaigns and Media Assistant to support our campaigning and advocacy work in Italy. The successful candidate will be fluent in English and in Italian. Reporting to the Advocacy and Campaigns Manager, they will also work closely with ONE teams in London, Brussels and across Europe to plan and deliver campaigns and media activity in Italy that engages our members and influences political leaders. 

The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter, sympathetic to ONE’s agenda and able to handle a varied and fast-paced role. Interest in or experience of international development and Africa is desirable. Knowledge and experience of Italian politics and media would be an advantage. This is a temporary position that will be based in London (with frequent travel to Italy), culminating in/around December 2016. 

Currently, we have around 54,000 ONE members in Italy and have run a Youth Ambassador programme with 30 Italian activists for two consecutive years. IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

• With the support of the Advocacy and Campaigns Manager, draw up and execute the 2016 campaign plan for Italy and help manage the budget;
• Run the Youth Ambassador Programme, including training Youth Ambassadors to write to and meet Italian leaders and influencers;
• Recruit new ONE members in Italy through a range of creative means;
• Monitor relevant media and keep media contacts and forward planning calendars up to date;
• Coordinate content for web and social media channels for Italian audiences;
• Work with colleagues across ONE to ensure a co-ordinated approach to media, and contribute to the development of ONE's media positions globally;
• Coordinate the translation of ONE materials for Italian audiences;
• With support from the European communications team, research and pitch stories to media;
• Monitor relevant media and keep forward planning calendars up to date;
• Any other duties as required.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

• Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration, with a willingness to get stuck in and having a positive and proactive approach to tasks;
• Excellent English- and Italian-language oral and written communications skills;
• Some experience of event and project coordination;
• Experience of volunteering and volunteer management;
• Ability to juggle competing priorities and work to tight deadlines;
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage people at all levels and different backgrounds;
• Experience of working in a campaigns and/or communications team;
• Creativity and a talent for developing innovative campaigns or communications;
• Understanding of print and digital communications channels and how to harness them;
• A commitment to ONE’s aims and familiarity with international development issues;
• Some knowledge of Italian politics and media.
