Project Manager at Energy Cities

Starting date: 2nd January 2017 (or earlier if available)
Duration: one year (with the possibility to extend)
Location: Brussels or Besançon
What would your mission be?
We are looking for a Project Manager who will, during one year:
  • Coordinate and manage European projects, incl. project strategic orientation, reporting, monitoring of results, quality control;
  • Coordinate and build trustful relationships with the consortium of project partners coming from various European countries;
  • Implement project activities, in particular organisation and facilitation of project meetings, capacity building workshops/webinars, development of various documents and outputs related to the project (e.g. training materials, guidelines, preparatory documents, presentations, etc.);
  • Communicate and disseminate the project results: contribution to the development of communication materials (brochures, leaflets, articles, case studies, project website), presentation of projects in national/European events and policy meetings;
  • Prospect new project ideas and opportunities and contribute to the development of new project proposals;
  • Contribute to Energy Cities’ policy work related to thematic topics, in particular smart cities & communities, heating & cooling and financing;
  • Develop Energy Cities’ activities related to local sustainable energy project funding via innovative financing mechanisms and business models, European / national funds, new relationships with financing institutions and investors;
  • Liaise with Energy Cities’ members and strategic partners, notably in relation to the topic of the coordinated projects.
Indicatively, the projects you will be working on may include:
  • HeatNet, an Interreg NWE project aiming to address the challenge of reducing CO2 emissions in NWE by creating an integrated NWE approach to the supply of renewable and low carbon heat to residential and commercial buildings. It will be developed and tested in 6 local district heating and cooling networks (DHC) in UK, Ireland, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. The overall objective is to introduce and demonstrate 4th generation DHC (4DHC) in NWE. 
  • Smarter Together, an H2020 Smart Cities & Communities project involving Lyon, Munich and Vienna as lighthouse cities. This pilot project that aims at developing ICT solutions for the energy transition in urban areas with a special focus on residential housing renovation, production and consumption of renewable energy and mobility.
What should your backgrounf be?
  • Master level studies e.g. in sustainable urban development/planning, energy & climate, economy & finance, international relations with focus on energy or similar;
  • Minimum 5-10 years incl. 4-5 years’ experience working in a local authority or local energy management agency; 
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate projects including budgeting; 
  • Preparation of investments, bankable projects, securing financing for local sustainable energy projects.
Some of the skills we really like:
  • Native English level or equivalent and very good command of French, other EU languages an advantage;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation and training skills, and ability to interact with diverse groups;
  • Good negotiation and facilitation skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong personal integrity, and ability to work as an effective team-player, including in an international and intercultural environment;
  • Autonomy and sense of initiative;
  • Creativity, ability to be innovative and imaginative, and learn from experience;
  • Positive and motivating attitude;
  • Proficient use of processing tools such as Office package and website content management systems.
Contract:
  • The contract will be made between the individual and Energy Cities under the French or Belgian law.
  • Short-term contract of one year with a possibility to be extended.
  • Location: Besançon or Brussels; with regular business trips in Europe
  • Full-time
  • Salary conditions: based on Energy Cities’ salary grid and depending on candidate experience. On an indicative basis: between 3,000 and 3,500€ monthly gross salary.
  • Holidays per year: 26.5 days plus 20 RTT/extra-legal days.
  • Other advantages (can vary depending on a contract under French or Belgian law): Perdiem when the employee is on mission; hospitalization insurance, health insurance, restaurant vouchers, public transport season ticket, phone monthly subscription fully or partly covered by the employer; group insurance (“assurance groupe“)/“Prévoyance” package in place.
  • Starting/Ending: 2nd January 2017-31st December 2017.
