Varietal Program Director

Position: VARIETAL PROGRAM DIRECTOR. Reports to Director General of Cenicana.

The Position:

The Colombian Sugarcane Research Center (Cenicana) is seeking a scientist to lead its Varietal Program. Responsabilities include the identification of  priorities, prepare proposals that address the technological requirements of sustainable and profitable production of sugarcane varieties to produce sugar, ethanol, biomass, and their byproducts, in compliance with Cenicaña’s policies and mandate, while ensuring that research outputs fulfill clients’ expectations. The transfer and adoption of results are also major challenges of this position.

Education:

Academic background in Agricultural sciences with PhD with emphasis in Genetics and Plant Breeding. Good knowledge of the areas of plant pathology, plant physiology, molecular biology, and entomology. Fluent in both written and spoken English.

Experience and skills:

At least five years of experience in the direction of a multidisciplinary group of specialists, identification of priorities, structure of research projects, knowledge management, ability to report results to stakeholders and technology end-users, publications, evidence of achievements of executed research projects, and experience in raise funding. Excellent leadership and managerial skills to direct and motivate a team of highly competent professionals, and open to interact with different research groups and networking within and outside the organization.
