IFP Advocacy coordinator
The International Forum of National NGOs Platforms (IFP/FIP) brings together 64 national development NGO platforms and 6 regional coalitions in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania, representing together more than 22,000 organizations.
The IFP’s aim is to play a pioneering role, among others, in the capacity building of NGO platforms and the monitoring and implementation of Agenda 2030.
The adoption of a new IFP 2016-2020 Strategy as well as the creation of a legal structure in France represent opportunities to develop the network’s activities.
In order to respond to its new ambitions, the IFP Secretariat will be strengthened. We are thus looking for a dynamic, motivated and creative person to join our team and coordinate the advocacy work, in relationship with the IFP staff, its Council and national and regional members. This is a unique opportunity to innovate and strengthen the IFP’s and its members’ advocacy impact, in close cooperation with the capacity building and communication colleagues, within a multicultural environment and decentralized team.
Under the direct supervision of the IFP Executive Director, the IFP Advocacy coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing the IFP’s advocacy strategy, in collaboration with the network’s members. The IFP Advocacy coordinator will regularly be in touch with all other IFP staff and Executive Committee.
Main responsibilities and tasks
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies in coordination with the IFP staff, Council and network members in order to promote national NGO platforms voices and influence regional and international institutions.
- Promote political dialogue concerning development policies, especially around the new development framework called 2030 Agenda and helping to prepare related policy documents and reports.
- Cooperation and communication with the members and support to the Director and Chair in liaising with the international institutions to contribute to good cooperation, information sharing and communication between members and the secretariat, regional and international Institutions, and other stakeholders.
Advocacy
- Design, plan and implement advocacy strategies and campaigns in line with the IFP’s overall strategy and in collaboration with the IFP staff, Council and network members
- Promote political dialogue concerning development policies, especially in the framework of the 2030 Agenda and support the preparation of related policy documents and reports
- Enable and facilitate IFP members’ participation in the IFP Working group on 2030 Agenda and the joint policy work
- Identify international key advocacy targets and develop contacts, in collaboration with regional and national members
- Contribute to good cooperation, information sharing and communication between members and the secretariat, institutions, and other stakeholders
- Actively participate and represent the IFP, when needed, in various networks, initiatives and events to share the IFP positions, after in-house consultation
Support to members
- Actively contribute and provide ad-hoc support and advice to IFP members concerning policy and advocacy actions
- Support the work of regional NGO coalitions on advocacy around the 2030 agenda
- Mapp the IFP’s members work on 2030 Agenda, gather and share their best practices and advocacy tools with members
- Contribute to the creation of tools and guides for the IFP members
- Organize webinars with members on advocacy issues of interest to them
Support to the Director, Council & the General Assembly
- Support the Director and Chair for their participation in advocacy events
- Support the facilitation of the Advocacy and Communications committee within the IFP Council
- Participate and support the organisation of the IFP main events, such as seminars, Council meetings, General Assemblies etc.
- Any other tasks within the scope of the role as directed and agreed.
Qualification and Experience
Education/Training:
- Master’s degree in a subject related to IFP work (e.g. Development Studies, International Relations).
- Good understanding of the discourse on Development issues, knowledge of the international policy environment in which development and cooperation issues are addressed (especially the 2030 Agenda) .
Technical Skills/Expertise :
- First-hand experience or knowledge of development policies.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective advocacy strategies on a wide range of issues/contexts
- Experince with networks and facilitating working groups
- Proven analytical skills and substantial experience in research and drafting for advocacy and publication
- Experience co-organising public events and conferences
- Experience of public speaking would be a plus
Minimum professional experience required :
- 4 years of working experience in an international NGO working in the field of development or equivalent
- Experince in working in 2030 Agenda issues would be a plus.
Languages :
- Fluency in English, very good command of French and/or Spanish. Knowledge of Portuguese would be a plus.
Personal qualities/interpersonal skills :
- Understanding of the socio-cultural, historical, political and economic global context.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others and towards shared objectives in a decentralized team.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner
- Ability to organize own work and manage own time and interact with a decentralized team
- Ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to the members in manner that engage them and allow them to better participate in IFP’s work.
- Ability to generate innovative solutions, being creative and taking risk.
- Ability to work under pressure and towards tight deadlines maintaining effective performance.
Conditions of employment
- Starting date: as soon as possible -Permanent position
- Location: flexible (preferably outside of Europe). International travelling is to be foreseen
